Understanding your free trial

How trials are handled, and why many accounts simply have full access.

Updated 19 July 2026 · 3 min read

Where a trial applies, it is managed through Stripe, and its status shows on Settings > Billing. VanMan itself does not run a trial countdown — the trial state, its dates, and what happens when it ends all come from Stripe.

Check your Billing page first

The honest answer to "what's my trial situation?" is on the Billing page, and for most accounts it is reassuringly dull.

If Settings > Billing shows "No Billing Setup""Your account was created before billing was enabled. No action is required." — then there is no trial and no countdown. You have full access to VanMan and nothing expires. There is no clock ticking down and no payment prompt coming.

This is the state most accounts are in. If it is yours, you can stop reading — the app is simply yours to use.

If a trial is active

If your account was set up with billing and a trial, the Billing page reflects that Stripe trial and shows an Add Payment Method button that opens Stripe's portal.

A trial's length, its end date, and what happens when it ends are set in Stripe, not in VanMan. VanMan reads that status and displays it. So for the specifics of your trial, the Billing page (and behind it, Stripe) is the authority — not a fixed figure quoted in help text.

Adding a payment method during a trial is done through Stripe's portal, the same way as any other billing change.

Access is not gated by trial state for existing accounts

For accounts showing "No Billing Setup", VanMan treats you as having full access regardless of billing status. Nothing locks you out. If you ever do see access restricted with a prompt to visit Billing, that is a genuine Stripe-driven subscription state — follow the button to the portal.

Tutorial: work out where you stand

Open Billing as an Admin

Go to Settings > Billing. It is Admin-only — if you cannot see it, ask whoever holds the Admin role.

Read the card

No Billing Setup means no trial, no expiry, full access — you are done. A subscription or trial status means Stripe is managing it, and the details are in the portal.

Do not go looking for a countdown

VanMan does not display a "days left in trial" clock of its own. If a trial genuinely applies, its dates live in Stripe. Chasing a countdown inside VanMan is chasing something that is not there.

If you need to add a card

Click Add Payment Method (or Manage Billing) to reach Stripe's portal, and add it there. That is the only place billing details are entered.

If nothing seems wrong, nothing is

An account that works, with a Billing page that says no setup is required, needs nothing from you. Get on with running your moves.
